I keep hearing about this thing called a digital smile makeover. What is it? Can I get one?
Sandee U.
Dear Sandee,
A digital smile makeover is when an image of you is uploaded to a computer and software is used to change your smile so you could see what you’d look like with various changes. This helps patients get an idea of whether or not they’d like the results. No one wants to spend money only to be disappointed. A cosmetic dentist will have the software. The companies that make them don’t sell them directly to patients.
However, one thing to be careful about is the dentist you choose. It will do you little good if the dentist can’t create the dream smile you designed on the software. You’ll need an experienced cosmetic dentist who’s invested hours of post-graduate study into perfecting not just their technical skill but their artistry.
Getting the Best Smile Makeover for You
If you’re looking for major changes to your smile, then the ideal procedure would be porcelain veneers. Again, who does this is important. It takes a lot more skill than is learned in dental school. These can change everything about your teeth. Their shape. Their size. Their color. Their character.
If you’re just needing modest changes, such as brightening them, teeth whitening will be sufficient. Or just straightening them, maybe Invisalign is what you need.
The key for all this is communication with a solid cosmetic dentist about what your goals are.
