Lumineers is one brand of ultra thin porcelain veneers that has been widely advertised to both the public and to dentists. So if you’ve been considering a smile makeover, you may have heard of this brand name.
Lumineers and Their Lab
Dr. Dennis tried the Lumineers brand about ten years ago. She had problems with the fit, and had issues with the fragility of the product.ย One of the problems with the Lumineers brand is that the company requires dentists to use their ownย lab. This is a large laboratory in California that has frankly been criticized by many expert cosmetic dentists as not producing very aesthetic results.
At Dr. Dennis’s office, we have the privilege of having our own certified lab technician in house. Druann does beautiful work, and using her enables Dr. Dennis to provide smile makeovers customized to the personality and aesthetics of each individual patient. This would not be possible with a large, distant,ย impersonal lab.
Veneers without Tooth Preparation
One nice thing about Lumineers is that they can be made so thin that, with appropriate case selection, smile makeovers can be done without any need for preparing the teeth. While traditional veneers are 0.5 mm thick or thicker, ultra-thin porcelain can be made to as thin as 0.3 mm. And while Dr. Dennis doesn’t use Lumineers, she does like to use her own brand of ultra-thin porcelain. Ask her if a no-prep technique would be appropriate for your case.
