Dental implants are an ideal way to replace missing teeth because they actually replace the entire tooth, including the root. They therefore restore function, feeling, and looks. But you don’t have to replace every missing tooth with a dental implant to take advantage of these benefits. Implant partials can be a more economical solution, more or less permanently anchoring several prosthetic teeth while offering other benefits when compared to traditional partial dentures.
Implant Partials For Molars and Back Teeth
When we are missing all our molars or all our back teeth, traditional partial dentures will clip onto the front teeth. And because there is nothing in back of the partial to anchor the partial, it can flop up and down freely. This exerts a twisting force on the front teeth, and can significantly shorten the life of the anchor teeth.
With a few implants in the back of the jaw, in the position where the last teeth would have been, Dr. Dennis can reduce the stress on the anchor teeth, prolonging their life. In addition, anchoring the partials in the back of the mouth provides more stability for better chewing and a more comfortable situation all around.
