Dr. Fu was drawn to dentistry from an early age. She says, “Growing up, I always had a great relationship with my dentist”. In fact, she enjoyed going to the dentist so much that she ended up shadowing him when she came home for her dental appointments.
Another reason she was attracted to dentistry was that “All of the dentists I’ve seen have had so much joy and were part of a tight-knit work family.” For Dr. Fu, becoming a dentist was a natural career choice because it allowed her to combine her talents in math, science, and artistry with her genuine love for people. She adds, “Making someone feel good about their smile is life-changing!”
Her Treatment Philosophy
“When it comes to patient care, my goal is to imitate and preserve as much of the natural beauty and function of the teeth as possible. I assess my patient’s natural teeth and determine the best course of treatment based on the individual’s needs, wants, and concerns.”
Dr. Fu takes a positive approach and focuses on prevention when it comes to dental care. She says, “It’s much better for a patient to know where they stand when it comes to their oral health. A lot of problems are easily remedied when they are small and detected early”.
She also understands that many people are genuinely fearful and anxious when visiting the dentist. As such, she strives to put her patients at ease. When she sees a patient, she warmly welcomes them and eases their fears. “Many of my patients relax almost instantly and are comforted when I hum softly during treatment. I also explain ahead of time the treatment or procedure in simple terms that patients can understand. I’ve found that knowing what to expect puts patients at ease and allows them to have a pleasant experience during each and every appointment.”
Family and Fun
Dr. Fu is married to a pediatric dentist. In fact, she met her husband while in dental school! Together they have a young daughter, named Ellie, and a tricolor King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, named Kodak. When she isn’t working, you may find her practicing yoga or reading, after her daughter is asleep. Her favorite treat is an almond or chocolate croissant.
